Dear -,
Yesterday we celebrated Earth Day, a day of special celebration. But we need to celebrate, honor, and protect the Earth every day of the year.

President Theodore Roosevelt, who in 1909 had established 150 national forests and parks, said “We have fallen heirs to the most glorious heritage a people ever received. Each of us must do our part if we are to be a nation worthy of its good fortune.”
The Department of Defense stated “climate change is challenging U.S. national security.” Energy efficiency from renewable energy sources, frees our dependence on oil, liberating the country from the reliance on foreign regions and foreign wars. Protecting the environment should be seen by all of us as a patriotic duty.
It is also pragmatic. Creating the economy of the future will result in millions of good-paying jobs, healthier lives, and better standards of living.
All of this is why my campaign — working with environmental scientists, activists, economists, and conservationists — developed the most comprehensive environmental plan proposed by a Presidential candidate. |
As I travel around the country, it is horrifying to hear from our fellow citizens dealing with water that is undrinkable, air that is polluted, and food that is covered in chemicals. The stories of undrinkable water have been particularly disconcerting.
We must say “No More” to this environmental and self degradation. It’s why we developed the most innovative and far-sighted Food Safety & Security plan for the United States. We must immediately demand the end of corporatized Big Ag’s petrochemicals in our food.
America needs a season of repair, and in no area more than this one. We can return to an era of conservation, understanding that our nation’s greatness is in our preservation of natural habitats. Human beings are not separate from nature. A deeper understanding of our connection to nature then deepens our connection to ourselves and to one another.
I've been gratified to see many of our talking points appearing in the speeches of the president, other candidates, and local elected officials. That’s why I’m using every opportunity available to me to keep spreading the word. Protecting our planet is a political issue and a moral one. It is, quite simply, an issue of our survival.
Thank you for your support in helping create this much needed paradigm shift. |
