Dear Friend,

Today, a British Court heard a case regarding the jailed founder of Wikileaks, Julian Assange. He has been incarcerated in the UK for over 5 years because the US is demanding he be sent to the US to stand trial.

Wikileaks, you may remember, exposed crimes committed by several US government actors, including, most of all, the US military. But instead of being celebrated for exposing wrongdoing, he has suffered a decade of persecution by the architects of those very crimes. They want Assange sent to the US to face charges that could land the is hero in prison for life.

The attorneys for Assange, who is an Australian citizen, sought assurances “that the applicant [Assange] is permitted to rely on the First Amendment, that the applicant is not prejudiced at trial, including sentence, by reason of his nationality, that he is afforded the same first amendment [free speech] protections as a United States citizen, and that the death penalty is not imposed.”

Julian’s attorneys achieved a legal victory in this hearing. The Guardian reported:

In a short ruling, the judges said the (U.S. government - ed.) submissions were not sufficient, granting Assange permission to a full appeal in relation to the points on freedom of speech and nationality.

This means Julian will remain imprisoned in the UK while his legal team prepares his appeal.

What was remarkable was the fact that British judges ruled that Julian could not be assured that a US Court would abide by its very own First Amendment.

Small wonder, considering the US government is trampling on the First Amendment when it comes to its own citizens - including Robert F. Kennedy Jr.! Mr. Kennedy is a plaintiff in a case currently before the Supreme Court. Justice Alito wrote about this case:

This case concerns what two lower courts found to be a “coordinated campaign” by high-level federal officials to suppress the expression of disfavored views on social media platforms that now serve as the primary source of news about important public issues for many Americans.

Indeed - a “coordinated campaign” by high-level federal officials to suppress “disfavored views.”

Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.’s presidential campaign has inspired and led the movement to protect the First Amendment, America's cornerstone.

We are rallying support for H.R. 934, a resolution affirming that journalistic activities are protected under the First Amendment.

This crucial legislation also calls for the immediate dropping of all charges against Julian Assange, whose only real “offense” was to expose things like the mass murder of civilians by US soldiers in Iraq and eavesdropping by the CIA spying on foreign diplomats - including those representing our friends and allies.

RFK, Jr. calls Julian Assange a hero and a pivotal figure in the fight for free speech and freedom of expression. Assange is imprisoned while the real criminals remain free and continue working for the federal government.
