As we continue burning fossil fuels and bringing our climate closer to apocalypse, the COP28 climate conference is taking place in Dubai. You might think that this conference would be helping to actually deal with climate change. You would be wrong. 

You might think that the President of COP28 would be a climate scientist or someone committed to dealing with the issue. You would be wrong. The President of COP28 is the head of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company. 

But it gets worse. 

This COP28 President just said there is ‘no science’ behind demands for a phase-out of fossil fuels. In other words, the president of the international climate change conference is basically a climate denier. 

And it gets even worse. 

The authoritarian petrostate hosting COP28 is using the conference as an opportunity to sell more fossil fuels and worsen the problem they’re supposed to be solving. According to leaked files, officials planned private meetings with representatives of at least 27 different countries, all with the goal of striking deals to trade oil and natural gas. 

In addition, President Biden skipped the event entirely just months after approving an enormous expansion of oil drilling in Alaska. 

Around the world, our leaders are failing us. They are literally bringing humanity to the brink of collapse for the sake of short-term profits and power. Can you imagine something more criminal than that? 

But we cannot give up. That’s what the climate criminals want us to do. We must stand up – as workers, as citizens, as humans – and force the people in power to stop this madness. We must begin a mass mobilization for a just transition from a dirty fossil-fueled economy to a green economy. 

As president, I will.
