Dear -,
Last night I spoke to a standing room only crowd in Ossining, New York. I'm convinced how important it is that we're completing our series of primary appearances. We are having a dialogue about America that is as important now as ever.
Until President Biden won the delegates necessary for nomination, all media focus was on the horse race. But there is something deeper going on in America than the horserace, and as long as we stay on that level of media-driven drivel then this country cannot transform. People are aware of the need for a deeper conversation. |
I wish you could be with me as I travel, experiencing the electricity of an engaged group of people having a meaningful, heartfelt political conversation. While this won’t make me the Democratic Presidential nominee, we’re continuing to plant the seeds of a new beginning and many thousands of American will in their own way be its gardeners.
Anthropologist Margaret Mead said we should never doubt that a small group of concerned citizens could change the world. In fact, she said, it’s the only thing that ever has. I see in audiences today a deep concern, a willingness for mature reflection, a group intelligence that speaks well for who we are. No matter what part of the country I’m in, I encounter the same kind of listening and depth of sharing - and it gives me hope for America.
When people ask me “But what do we do?” I remind them of this response from Mahatma Gandhi when he was asked "Who is the leader of the Indian Independence movement?" He said it’s “the small still voice within.” Each of us will know what to do next. Having gone deeper into the things that matter most, we’ll have greater opportunity for wider influence. Having visited the vertical, we’ll be the purveyors of horizontal change. People hear that. We’re so tried of the superficial politics, and I’m as convinced as ever that people are ready for transformational change.
Thank you so much for supporting me in the completion of our race. After my talk in New York, I’ll visit Oregon and New Mexico as well. I hope you think, as I do, that then we’ll feel we did what we could to help create the start of a new beginning. |
With so much gratitude and love, |
